Covington Community Foundation is pleased to announce that the $100,000 matching grant to the “Covington City Park Playground Project” is halfway towards its goal.
Dale White, CEO of the Community Foundation states, “These volunteers are doing such a fantastic job in taking the initiative in raising funds for the project we wanted to encourage them just like we did when we donated $50,000 in January of this year. Since that time a small group of donors have come together and are willing to match dollar-for-dollar any donation to the playground project up to a total amount of $100,000. To-date $50,000 has been matched by the community. The matching gift program will run until December 31, 2017.”
The Friends of the Covington City Park are a local group of citizens that have been working diligently on their plans to replace the ageing playground equipment in the City Park with a state-of-the-art destination playground. They have already raised $400,000 with an ultimate goal of raising $695,000. They hope to break ground in Spring 2018.
Linda McGurk with the Friends group states, “The playground will feature a treehouse, a splash pad, a parkour course, a butterfly garden, and a sand and water play area, as well as traditional playground equipment like swings and slides, the new playground will be completely unique for this part of Indiana.”
Plans also include a 6’ trike path, outdoor fitness equipment (for active attendees to enjoy), a family restroom, and a covered picnic area.
